Strategic planning for your family business

In “To Kill a Mockingbird,” young Jem Finch quotes his father: “Atticus says you can choose your friends but you sho’ can’t choose your family…” You won’t hear me disagreeing with the good attorney’s words, as relayed by his son! 70-20-10: That’s a wrap!

Have you ever sat through a particularly boring movie and thought, “I’ve seen this before.” Why do people create something following the same bad format? That’s because making something truly original that breaks the mold can be challenging…but we can all agree that the end result is worth it.

70-20: Ignite the flame to drive learning outcomes

As Yeats once said, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”

Picture it this way: a leaky bucket sits underneath a faucet. Eventually, the bucket starts overflowing with water. Now imagine carrying that bucket and, as it continues to leak all over the floor, attempting to pour its contents into a glass. Not such an effective method, is it?

It’s been 47 years since the Jackson 5 knocked the Beatles off the charts with “ABC.” It’s what you could call a groundbreaking moment, and if you’ve got the tune in your head now, first – you’re welcome, second – what a testament to that little song’s staying power in our collective imagination.
